UNCC Selects New Police Chief

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) has given the job of campus police chief to its interim chief, Jeff Baker. Baker’s 11 months in the interim position have been marked by decreases in crime.

Baker, a former Charlotte-Mecklenburg police captain, was among 80 candidates considered in a nationwide search, the Charlotte Observer reports. He will officially take the position on May 16.

According to UNCC officials, robbery on campus decreased 75 percent in 2010. Larceny from auto fell 61 percent in the same period, and auto theft decreased 78 percent.
