LOS ANGELES — Despite the upcoming shut down of ten miles of the nation’s busiest freeway July 16-17, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) will have between 8,000-10,000 people on its campus during that time. The university operates two hospitals.
Officials have suggested that people stay home in light of the 405 freeway shut down, UCLA Today reports. However, UCLA will have 1,900 employees at its hospitals, with several hundred doctors, nurses and other staff staying in campus residence halls in case of emergency.
The UCPD and UCLA Transportation are scheduling extra staff to ensure that everything runs smoothly. UCLA traffic officers will man intersections and keep pathways to the hospitals clear.
