AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas (UT) Police Department is strengthening its emergency response team to better address campus emergencies.
UT Police Department Chief Robert Dahlstrom is adding three dispatchers to the department, The Daily Texan reports. The department responds to all emergency situations on campus and in UT buildings across the city. The extra dispatchers will ensure the department is adequately staffed, Dahlstrom said.
The Austin American-Statesman reported in June that the Austin Police department has placed an increasing number of callers on hold this year due to understaffing. The university, however, has not had any issues during emergencies as a result of the Austin police not responding to calls on time.
