PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania’s Division of Public Safety has outlined its plan to increase campus security.
The department, which recently received $5 million in additional funds, plans to hire 15 more officers, expanding the entire force to 116; install more lighting around campus; and add eight surveillance cameras to protect the veterinary school and university science center, bringing the total number of cameras to 76.
Additionally, more security guards will be deployed in high-risk areas, and the number of guards on patrol between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m. will double. Guards will also be issued florescent yellow uniforms to increase their visibility.
