EUGENE, Ore. — The University of Oregon (UO) campus police arrested a graduate student Saturday after receiving reports that the man had been firing gunshots inside his campus-area home.
Authorities received at least four calls from neighbors of 30-year-old Jack McDowell, a candidate for a political science doctorate, who also teaches at the university. The neighbors reported hearing gunfire coming from the home, KVAL 13 reports. When authorities arrived at the scene around 3:20 a.m., McDowell was still shooting. Investigators later counted as many as 39 bullet holes in the ceiling.
McDowell was charged with 39 counts of unlawful use of a weapon and second-degree disorderly conduct.
