IOWA — The University of Northern Iowa is seeking a new chief of police and director of public safety. Its current chief of 40 years retires April 30.
As chief, David Zarifis was behind the controversial decision to arm police on the three Iowa Regents university campuses, the Cedar Falls Patch reports. UNI President Ben Allen said in a statement that Zarifis “has built solid relationships with faculty, staff and students and he will be missed.”
Milissa Wright, associate director of public safety, will serve as interim director while a search for a new director is conducted, according to the student paper.
