A University of Minnesota (U of M) student was shot by two armed men outside a dorm on the night of Jan. 25,. In addition to the shooting, the same men robbed three other students on the same night.
According to KSTP.com, authorities said all three robberies occurred within 15 minutes and several blocks of each other. All three robbery victims were women; each described the suspects as two men.
The first victim was robbed around 11 p.m., at an off-campus location near the university. She told police that two men grabbed her. She gave them her bag once she saw they had a gun.
Minutes later, two women were robbed outside of Moos Tower. Following that incident, the suspects continued towards Centennial Hall, where they shot 19-year-old Timothy Schumacher in the torso and ran off.
Schumacher was listed in satisfactory condition at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Students and their parents were outraged that U of M officials did not release an alert until nearly 12 hours after the incident occurred. However, officials said they only issue alerts for on-going threats, and since the suspects were captured on camera leaving the campus, there was no immediate danger to students.
The images from the cameras, however, were grainy. Currently, no one has been arrested. For additional information, please click here.
