U. of Memphis Football Player Shot, Killed

Published: September 30, 2007

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A University of Memphis football player was fatally shot Sept. 30, leading the school to close down the campus while police looked for suspects.

According to police, Taylor Bradford, 21, a junior defensive lineman, was shot Sunday just before 10 p.m. near a university housing complex.  After being shot, Bradford was apparently able to get into his vehicle and drive away from the scene before crashing his car into a tree. The victim was then transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities believe Bradford was the target of the attack and that no other students were at risk. Until that determination was made, however, the university’s residence halls were closed for about a half-hour. Today’s classes have been cancelled but are scheduled to resume tomorrow.

Police have not identified a suspect or a motive for the shooting.
