CINCINNATI — The president of the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati police chief have co-authored a letter to local judges, urging them to issue more stern sentences to criminals accused of targeting UC students.
UC President Santa Ono and Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell sent a letter to Hamilton County judges on Nov. 19. Although there has been a 35% decline in violent crime in the area, property crime has increased, WCPO.com reports.
The university has also taken steps to reduce crime, including implementing extra off-duty patrols, and installing lights and surveillance cameras around campus.
