CHARLESTON, W. Va. — The University of Charleston has been sued by a man who was assaulted and robbed by three of the university’s former basketball players.
In April 2013, three University of Charleston basketball recruits attacked Andrew Rude. The plaintiff’s lawsuit alleges that the university recruited the three players and offered them athletic scholarships, despite their violent criminal records in other states. In his complaint, Rude stated that the university should have been aware of the students’ violent criminal pasts before admitting them into the school, UPI reports.
The three assailants, who were suspended from the basketball team after they were arrested, are not listed as defendants in the lawsuit. One of the former players is serving 10 years in prison, while the other two are serving two years each in a youth correctional facility.
