U-M Adds Metal Detectors, Bag Searches to Regents Meetings

ANN ARBOR, Mich. —The University of Michigan (U-M) has added metal detectors and bag checks to its security procedures at monthly Board of Regents meetings.

The new security measures were a recommendation from U-M’s Department of Public Safety, not a response to a specific incident, AnnArbor.com reports. The new measures follow a decision to move the meetings to a larger venue on campus and add uniformed police officers to meetings.

During these meetings, the regents make large financial, academic and property decisions for the school.
