DAVIS, Calif. — All 107 public safety phones on the University of California, Davis, are being removed by the end of the summer. University officials say the phones have been rendered obsolete by the use of cell phones.
Removing the phones will cost $70,000, The Sacramento Bee reports. The phones cost $36,000 annually to operate.
Fourteen of the public safety phones located in student residential areas and another four in parking structures will be replaced by service phones that can be used to dial campus phone numbers and 911.
