A Title IX federal lawsuit has been filed against a Michigan school system for its handling of an alleged sexual abuse case. Jamila Love Williams, a former female math teacher at the University Preparatory Academy in Grand Rapids, was sentenced to eight to 15 years in prison in October 2013 for having sex with at least four of the five boys named in the suit.

Nationally-known lawyer Gloria Allred announced Tuesday she was filing the lawsuit on behalf of the mothers of the victims, . Allred said the boys’ constitutional and civil rights were violated by the district during Williams’ actions against the students, according to the Grand Rapids Press.

In the suit, claims were made that Williams flirted with the students, sent inappropriate texts, felt them up, made sexually suggestive comments and successfully pursued sex with some of them. The boys are only identified by their initials or John or James Doe in the suit.
