SAN ANTONIO, Calif. — Weeks after a University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) police officer fatally shot a student at a traffic stop, school officials have refused to release documents outlining the campus police department’s standard operating procedures.
The Dec. 6 incident resulted in the death of senior Cameron Redus. As a result, university officials placed the officer involved in the shooting on administrative leave. Alamo Heights Police Department officials then requested a copy of UIW’s campus police department procedures, stating that they were not comfortable with how information was being shared between the institution and his department, KHOU.com reports.
UIW President Dr. Lou Agnese posted an open letter stating that as a private university, the school would not comply with the AHPD’s request. However, he assured students that the school has been cooperative in assisting AHPD and the Texas Rangers as the units investigate the incident.
