FRISCO, Texas – To prevent newborns from being abducted from their hospital, officials at Baylor Medical Center Frisco have introduced a new security measure.
The Hugs and Kisses program places an ankle monitor on a newborn and a bracelet on the mother. When the two are together, a lullaby plays; however, if the wrong mother and the wrong baby are together, an alert will sound.
The ankle monitor also locks down elevators to prevent infants from leaving the floor.
Additionally, cameras have been installed in postpartum patient rooms.
According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, newborn babies are most frequently abducted at hospitals in Texas and California.
