A 17-year-old male and his 18-year-old girlfriend were both sentenced to two years in jail for plans to act out a mass killing at the University of Manitoba and a Winnipeg high school.
The unnamed teens had plotted to corral high school students in a Winnipeg high school’s auditorium before opening fire. They planned to randomly shoot students “until they got tired,” reports The Canadian Press. They then intended to escape in a getaway car and continue shooting people at the University of Manitoba.
The pair stole guns and ammunition and made Molotov cocktails, which were stored in the girl’s closet. A friend of the couple anonymously tipped police on the mass killing plan. Both were arrested in January.
The two were sentenced as adults but will serve their term in a juvenile facility. Following their sentence, they will be on supervised probation for three years.
