Teen Sets Self on Fire at Standley Lake High School

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — Standley Lake High School administrators have closed the school today after a 16-year-old student set himself on fire in the school’s cafeteria.

The unnamed boy is in critical condition with severe burns, ABC News reports. It is unclear how the student started the fire.

The incident occurred shortly after 7 a.m., according to authorities. Students were present in the cafeteria during this time, but none were injured. A female teacher was treated for minor cuts when she broke a pane of glass to access a fire extinguisher.

Police believe the incident was a suicide attempt, the Associated Press reports.
