Arizona State Deploys Upgraded Mass Notification Solution
Arizona State University, King’s ¬College, University of Toledo and other institutions have made the switch to e2Campus for improved multimodal emergency communications. The solution gives the colleges a centralized interface to broadcast emergency alerts to their campus PA systems, Web pages, and as SMS text messages, voice calls, RSS feeds and E-mails. e2Campus ¬automatically broadcasts to everyone’s ¬E-mail address and the PA system whether people have opted-in or not.
Furman U. Implements Upgraded Emergency Communications
Furman University in Greenville, S.C., is one of the first users of ADT Select Link, a new emergency communications system capable of simultaneously sending thousands of text or voice messages to cell phones, desktop and laptop computers, PDAs and digital pagers. Select Link will allow Furman to notify students, faculty and staff of emergency situations, such as dangerous conditions on campus, severe weather, and school and road closings.
New York Presbyterian Incorporates Updated Key Management
The New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Campus has adopted Morse Watchmans’ KeyWatcher® Key Control System, which is designed to record the access history of each key, including user, date and time of checkout/return. By releasing assigned keys only to users with the proper ¬authorization code, the KeyWatcher system helps to ensure adherence to the hospital industry’s standardized policies and procedures. The network capabilities of the KeyWatcher Key Control system allow hospital management to easily program and implement changes over the LAN.
Solar Lights Enhance Safety of Florida School District
Sol Inc. (Solar Outdoor Lighting), a provider of Solar LED outdoor lighting, donated five solar powered LED transit shelter security lights to the City of Port St. Lucie (Fla.) to enhance the safety and security of local school area children. The new shelters are part of the city council’s ongoing efforts to provide safe areas for schoolchildren as they wait for their buses to get to school.
Pennsylvania School District Deploys Metal Detectors
Metal detectors have been deployed at entrances at Valley High School in the New Kensington-Arnold (Pa.) School District. The district is the first in the area to use metal detectors on a regular basis, although district officials point out that the devices will not be used every day. Instead, they will be used at random. Additionally, the detectors are portable, which allows other schools in the district to use them.
Infant Abduction Prevention System Installed at Texas Hospital
To prevent newborns from being abducted from their hospital, officials at Baylor Medical Center Frisco (Texas) have introduced the Hugs and Kisses program, which places an ankle monitor on a newborn and a bracelet on the mother. When the two are together, a lullaby plays; however, if the wrong mother and the wrong baby are together, an alert will sound. The ankle monitor also locks down elevators to prevent infants from leaving the floor. Additionally, cameras have been installed in postpartum patient rooms.
