John William Lomax, 21, has been charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of Jasper Howard, a University of Connecticut football player who was mortally wounded after a fight on campus.

Lomax of Bloomfield, Conn., was arraigned on Oct. 28. A second suspect, 20-year-old Hakim Muhammad, is charged with conspiracy to commit assault. Prosecutors claim both men went back to Lomax’s car after the argument involving Howard and came back with knives, reports Fox News.

Howard died of a single stab wound to the abdomen during the fight which occurred after an on-campus, university-sanctioned dance. The 20-year-old football star helped his team win a game just 12 hours before the incident occurred.
