Suicidal 8th Grader Shot by SWAT Team

ORLANDO, Fla. – A SWAT officer has shot a suicidal eight grader who had pulled a gun in his Florida classroom and took another child hostage.

According to reports by the Associated Press, police say the 15-year-old boy brought the firearm to Milwee Middle School in his backpack. During an altercation in class, he briefly held another student hostage. He then left the classroom and ran through the campus with his handgun.

Police then chased him into a restroom where at one point, deputies say, he held the gun to his neck. As police tried to talk with the student, he again raised his firearm. The SWAT team member then shot the boy. Milwee Middle School was evacuated and no one else was injured.

The suspect was taken to the hospital. His condition is not currently known.
