Less than two percent of meats, vegetables and dairy products in preschoolers’ lunches are at a safe temperature when they are consumed, according a new study.
The University of Texas at Austin study surveyed 700 preschoolers’ lunch packs, Reuters reports. Although 45 percent included an ice pack and 12 percent were stored in refrigerators, almost all the perishables in the lunches were at an unsafe temperature.
Perishable foods kept between 40 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit for more than two hours is no longer safe to consume, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
