NEW YORK — Students who have pictures or posts about getting drunk or blacking out are more at risk of alcohol dependence or abuse, according to a new study.
This is not necessarily the case for students who mentioned alcohol on their Facebook profile in a way that suggested they don’t drink too much, Reuters reports. Researchers surveyed 224 Facebook profiles of undergraduate students and then brought those students in for a 10-question screening test.
Nearly six out of 10 students whose Facebook profiles referred to drunkenness or dangerous drinking scored above the cutoff showing a risk for alcohol abuse and dependence.
