Students Claim Calif. District’s Social Media Contract Violates 1st Amendment

STOCKTON, Calif. — In an effort to stop cyberbullying among its students, the Lodi Unified School District (LUSD) has required high school students who participate in after school programs to sign a social media contract.

The contract states the school district can monitor what students post on social media. If district officials deem the posts as inappropriate, students can possibly be kicked off athletic teams or clubs, Fox 40 reports.

The contract has caused uproar with students, who claim the document violates their First Amendment rights. District officials maintain the contract will protect students from bullying on campus.
