OXNARD, Calif. – An eighth grade student was shot by another student inside a classroom on Feb. 12, police said.
The Oxnard Police Department responded upon receiving a report from E. O. Green Junior High School that a student had been shot inside a classroom.
The suspect shot the 15-year-old victim in the head as a result of a personal dispute around 8:30 a.m., police said. The suspect then ran off the campus but was arrested by authorities shortly after. He remains in police custody. The names of the victim and the suspect have not been released.
The school was immediately locked down after the incident. Parents were able to pick their children up from the school; however, they were only allowed to enter the campus one-by-one. School officials also said students would only be released to the person listed on the emergency card. Twenty-five students were questioned by police before they were released to their parents.
The victim is in serious condition.
