Student Expelled from College for Same-Sex Relationship

OMAHA, Neb. — Grace University has requested that a former student, who was expelled from the college just months before her graduation due to her relationship with a female student, repay $6,300 in tuition fees.

The biblical-based Christian university expelled Danielle Powell during the spring 2011 semester for her continued relationship with Michelle Rogers, which school officials say violated the rules in the student handbook, ABC News reports.

According to an online petition started by Rogers, Powell’s now-wife, the university revoked the scholarships Powell received that would have covered her tuition. The petition requests signatures and letters to be written to Grace University, forgiving Powell’s tuition debt, as well as protesting alleged discrimination. So far, the petition has received more than 25,000 signatures.
