Student Death Raises Questions, Concerns

BROWNSVILLE, Texas — Parents said their children weren’t eating, some were running fevers and  others needed to talk to someone after an eighth grader carrying a pellet gun was fatally shot by police on Jan. 4.

The Rev. Jorge Gomez was counseling parents and students on the day of the shooting, the Associated Press reports. Gomez officiated a wake for Jaime Gonzalez on Thursday night.

It is still unclear why Gonzalez brought the pellet gun to Cummings Middle School and refused to drop it when confronted by police.
