Student Death Prompts Fire Escape Safety Analysis

NORMAN, Okla. — The University of Oklahoma and the Norman Fire Department have partnered to analyze and increase the safety of campus fire escapes after a student reportedly fell from one and died.

Casey Lauren Cooke was found unresponsive on June 3 and was pronounced dead at the scene, Firehouse reports. It’s believed she was attempting to climb down a fire escape and fell.

The medical examiner determined that Cooke died from blunt force trauma to the chest and head. A toxicology report is pending.
