ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Staff members at the University of Michigan could possibly become victims of identity theft after receiving spear phishing E-mails that allowed hackers to redirect pay deposits or obtain Social Security numbers.
The U-M Police Department sent an alert Tuesday, warning the campus community of the crimes, noting that the phishing E-mails have been designed to look like official university messages. The E-mails trick recipients into revealing passwords to sensitive university information, the Detroit Free Press reports.
