EF4 Tornado Strikes Southern Miss

UPDATE: Officials at Southern Miss said the campus remains closed, but they expect operations to resume Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 4 p.m. Classes will resume Thursday, Feb. 14.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — The University of Southern Mississippi (Southern Miss) sustained a direct tornado hit on Sunday. Although several buildings were damaged, no one was injured.

The EF4 tornado struck the southern portion of the campus, reports USA Today. In total, 15 reports of tornadoes were reported in Mississippi and Alabama on Sunday.

The storm caused extensive damage to six buildings, including the Ogletree House, home of the University’s Alumni Association.
