GREENVILLE, S.C. – Greenville Memorial Hospital is enhancing the emergency room security, according to news reports.
The emergency room entrance, currently in renovation, will install a metal detector, although the hospital states no incident led to the decision of improving security. Instead, the hospital would rather have it installed before trouble arises.
Placed outside the emergency room is a sign informing those who enter that they must pass through the metal detector. If security deems it necessary, patients arriving by ambulance could be scanned as well.
The American Medical Association recommends the installation of metal detectors in all emergency rooms, although there will not be a metal detector at the hospital’s main entrance.
