South Carolina High School Principal Arrested for Thwarting Investigation

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Police have charged the Ware Shoals High School principal with obstruction of justice for hindering their investigation into the campus’ cheerleading coach who is suspected of providing alcohol to students.

Police told Jane Blackwell, 59, they planned on talking to each of the cheerleaders about the allegations against their coach, Jill Moore. According to authorities, after investigators informed Blackwell of their intentions, the principal told the cheerleading squad not to talk about the case. Moore was arrested last week.

Law enforcement officials say Blackwell was trying to keep the case from being leaked to the public. According to the arrest warrant, she even disciplined a student for talking about the allegations at school.

Authorities suspect the principal knew Moore was providing beer to students but failed to tell the police.

Blackwell was charged with obstruction of justice Jan. 22.
