TORONTO — Skimming devices were found attached to ATMs in eight hospitals in the Greater Toronto Area. Police are hoping the suspects who put them there will appear in security camera footage.
The tamper devices were discovered at Toronto East General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital on April 11, InsideToronto.com reports. Last month, they were found at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, Southlake Health Centre (Newmarket) and Lakeridge Health Bowmanville. In November, the devices were discovered at the Hospital for Sick Children, North York General Hospital and The Scarborough Hospital, General Division.
The devices contain a secondary card reader and pinhole camera and were attached to the ATMs over the legitimate card reader. The camera records the PINs on the card while the reader stores the card’s track data.
