SAN DIEGO – Police arrested an employee of the Kaiser Foundation Hospital after he allegedly shot at a security guard Jan. 11, the day after he was chased out of a handicapped parking space by the guard.
Around 10:30 a.m., Christopher Baladad, 24, opened fire on the guard, whose name has not been released. Baladad managed to miss hitting the victim; however, there was damage to the victim’s vehicle. Baladad fired two shots with one shattering the driver’s side window of the victim’s car. Police say the weapon was a high-powered pellet pistol.
Ninety minutes after the shooting, police arrested Baladad outside of his home, according to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD).
Authorities said earlier in the week the guard had chastised the suspect for parking his vehicle in a spot designated for the handicapped at a nearby grocery store near the hospital.
Police were able to track down Baladad after the victim, who originally drove away during the incident, gave police the license plate number off of Baladad’s car. The victim told police he believed his attacker was a gang member.
It is unclear what Baladad’s job is at the hospital. He was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
