North Park Elementary School will now only allow volunteers who have been fingerprinted through the front office and into classrooms.
The change was prompted by a shooting that resulted in the deaths of a teacher, a student and the gunman, reports the Press Enterprise.

On April 10, Cedric Anderson, 53, was allowed entry to the school, telling staff he was dropping something off for his wife, Karen Smith, 53. He then went to Smith’s special education classroom and shot her. Two students were behind her and were also shot; one of them—8-year-old Jonathan Martinez—fatally. Anderson then took his own life.
The other student, nine-year-old Nolan Brandy, is recovering and in good spirits.
District Superintendent Dale Marsden told parents at a meeting that the new rule only applies to North Park but might be applied to other campuses.
North Park’s classrooms will also be fitted with locks this summer. The classroom where the April 10 shooting occurred didn’t have a door, just a curtain.
North Park is scheduled to re-open on Monday, and staff members returned on Thursday.
