A 32-year-old prisoner has been shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy inside the Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center after the man allegedly tried attacking the officer.
The unidentified man was under police supervision as he received treatment at the facility. According to the Daily Tribune, the prisoner had escaped his gurney and then attempted to attack the officer with a hypodermic needle. The officer ordered the man to drop his weapon, but the man refused. He was shot once in the chest.
The man was rushed to the hospital’s emergency room where he was pronounced dead. He was being driven to the county jail for retail fraud and drug charges when he requested medical treatment for an undisclosed health issue.
