SF State Tests New Emergency Alert System

SAN FRANCISCO – San Francisco State University has released the SF State Emergency Preparedness Program. On May 13, the university sent out test notifications, including phone calls, text messages and E-mails, to determine how quickly and accurately messages could reach students, staff and faculty.

During the test, nearly 36,000 phone calls reached either a live person or a voicemail. More than 6,500 text messages were sent in addition to the 62,000 E-mails that reached the campus community.

Additionally, campus officials are looking to install an internal building auditory alert system to ensure emergency preparedness.

More than 1,000 individuals completed the online survey given out by the university in regards to the new system. Answers ranged from grateful to uncertain of the purpose of the system.
