PITTSBURGH — After hosting an unauthorized social event, which violated Carnegie Mellon University’s orders to cease operation during a hazing investigation case, the national chapter of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity has suspended the Gamma Iota Chapter until 2017.
Carnegie Mellon began investigating the chapter after allegations that sexually explicit photos and videos involving members and non-members were unlawfully being distributed on the chapter’s E-mail list serve, The Tartan reports. As campus police investigated the incident, it became evident that the chapter was also engaging in hazing, according to BetaThetaPi.informz.net.
Both Carnegie Mellon and the Beta Theta Pi’s national chapter agreed to suspend and disband the Gamma Iota chapter through the conclusion of the 2016-17 school year.
