Security Reviewed at Montana Hospital after Suicide

MISSOULA, Mont. – An 81-year-old man fatally shot himself in a secluded, private room at St. Patrick Hospital Jan. 19.

The man, who was a patient at the hospital, shot himself in the head with a .25-caliber handgun. Police said the patient never showed any signs of danger to other patients or hospital staff.

Vice President of nursing at the hospital, Joyce Dombrouski, said hospital officials are reviewing the security policies and procedures to establish if changes need to be made.

Dombrouski added that the security guards hired at the facility are trained professionals who monitor as many as 40 surveillance cameras.

Hospital staff members are being debriefed and have been offered counseling in the wake of this tragedy.
