LONGVIEW, Wash. – A security officer at St. John’s Medical Center came to a nurse’s aid on May 25 after a patient tried to sexually assault her.
According to news reports, the patient was changing into a hospital gown in an exam room. He turned violent when two nurses entered the room and began asking him questions. The patient, who is being held for mental evaluation, grabbed one of the nurses, ripped her shirt and told her that he was going to rape her.
When security officer Joel Reeder heard the nurse screaming, he immediately confronted the patient who then backed off . Reeder called for back-up and several other security personnel pinned down the patient. The patient could be charged with attempted rape and assault.
A year ago, hospital officials updated their security plan after someone walked into the emergency room with a gun.
