AUSTELL, Ga. — A security officer who confronted a drunken man on Aug. 6 is being held responsible for the man’s death.

Police issued arrested warrants for Jerry Thomas Evans, charging him with involuntary manslaughter and reckless conduct, the Atlantic Crime Examiner reports. William Darrell West entered Wellstar South Cobb Hospital and got into a confrontation with Evans.

During the confrontation, West struck his head on the hospital floor and, as a result, died of blunt force trauma.

The hospital is backing Evans and helped him hire an attorney, WSBTV reports. Hospital officials said surveillance video of the incident will clear Evans.
