Security Guard Shot In Tennessee High School Parking Lot

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A high school security guard was shot and killed Oct. 31 while he was patrolling the campus parking lot.

Russell Kocur, 39, was deployed to prevent vandalism on Halloween night at Halls High School. Shortly before the shooting, he told dispatchers he was going to check on a vehicle with Virginia plates and a man who appeared to be drunk. Kocur then reported he had been shot. He died as he was being transported to the hospital.

Police found Kocur’s patrol vehicle several miles from campus with the suspect in it. The driver, who was a homeless man from Virginia, fought with authorities before he was subdued with a stun gun. The suspect’s name has not been released.
