Schools Close in Southern California Due to Wildfires

MALIBU, Calif. – Several K-12 schools and universities in California’s Southland were closed Oct. 22 due to fires caused by the Santa Ana winds.

The areas include San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

More than half-dozen fires have broken out throughout the counties. So far, only one death has resulted from the fires, but there have been several injuries.

Among the universities closed are Pepperdine University, California State University San Marcos and the University of San Diego. Pepperdine’s staff was advised to evacuate the 830-acre campus, while students were directed to gather in the basketball arena and the school’s cafeteria, Oct. 21.
