A New Jersey school security guard’s legal request to prevent her firing was denied after she posted a Facebook status the school found racist.
Mary Czaplinski was a security guard for Vineland High School when she posted a Facebook status that referred to a man accused of killing a Philadelphia cop as “another black thug” on March 5. After the school was alerted of the comment, officials sent Czaplinski a letter executing her employment, according to nj.com.
Czaplinski requested a preliminary injuction to prevent the Vineland School District from firing her, and on March 31 U.S. District Court Judge Joseph Irenas denied that request.
Czaplinski’s request claimed officials violated her right to free speech by firing her because of the comment. She had been working at the school for 12 years.
