A 17-year-old was sentenced to 30 years in prison after he admitted to shooting two Florida high school students in a school bus in 2015.
Edgar Manuel Robles plead guilty to two counts of attempted second degree murder for the shooting, which left two female students with serious injuries.
The sentence comes after Robles’ May 2015 shooting was captured by cameras on the school bus and witnessed by multiple passengers, reports Jacksonville.com.
Police say Robles and two friends approached the stopped school bus with the intention of fighting two passengers. When someone in the bus spit on him, Robles pulled out a gun and began firing.
Shakayla Singleton and Ayanna Sherman were wounded in the shooting and taken to a nearby hospital. A bullet hit Sherman in the back of the head and another bullet went through Singleton’s cheeks.
The bus was transporting 30 students from three Jacksonville alternative schools (James Weldon Johnson Academic and Career Training Center, Grand Park Center and Mattie V. Rutherford Alternative Center).
Robles fled the scene and was taken into custody a week later. The two friends he was with were not charged.
Robles’ sentence has a mandatory minimum of 25 years followed by two years of community control and three years of probation.
