A home security camera recorded a school-age girl being dragged by her Jefferson County Public School bus in Kentucky.
The May 15 incident occurred when the bus driver let the 7-year-old girl off at her stop. The child’s backpack apparently got stuck in the door as she exited the bus, ABC News reports.
The video shows the girl’s legs hanging out of the bus as it drove down the road, as well as witnesses chasing after the bus to get the driver’s attention.
The footage also shows a red Camaro chasing after the school bus. The vehicle’s driver eventually informed the bus driver that the little girl was being dragged along.
Bystanders noted that the child’s torso had been in the bus, but her legs were dragging. Police said the girl was dragged about 100 feet; however, witnesses estimate the total distance was about the length of a football field.
Despite the commotion, the young girl was not seriously injured. She was taken to the hospital and treated for road rash to her legs. Her injuries were non-life-threatening.
No charges have been filed against the bus driver. Police are still investigating the incident.
