School Officer Shoots Suspect in Response to Screwdriver Attack

OAKLAND, Calif. — An officer from the Oakland Schools Police Department shot and killed a man who attacked another officer with a screw driver. The attacker occurred when the two Oakland officers approached a suspicious vehicle that was parked near a community center.

The officers were providing security for Skyline High School’s Winter Ball when they spotted the car, California Beat reports. An unidentified occupant stabbed one of the officers with a screwdriver and was shot by the other officer. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman in the car was uninjured during the incident.

The Oakland Police Department and the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office are conducting separate investigations into the incident.
