The Camden School District in New Jersey recently removed badges and handcuffs from its 124 school security guard until the district amends its policies. According to the current policy, guards are prohibited from physically restraining or contacting a student unless acting in self-defense or in the defense of another.
All officers are now required to go through training in force and restraint, handcuffing and communications. The security guards will continue to work without the restraints and badges until a plan is presented to the Camden City Board of Education.
