LOS ANGELES — Police arrested a 17-year-old foreign exchange student from South Korea on Dec. 18 following a school fight that left another exchange student dead. The two boys were allegedly friends, but exchanged blows during a physical education class on Dec. 14.
Jin Su Lee, 19, died of head injuries at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills after fighting with another student at First Lutheran High School, the Los Angeles Times reports. Police believe Lee initiated the altercation but are still investigating. Bill Stark, the school’s executive director, told the news source that the fight lasted only a few seconds.
Los Angeles County prosecutors are awaiting the results of the coroner’s report before deciding whether or not to press charges. A police source said it was unlikely that the 17-year-old will be prosecuted.
