TRUMBULL, Conn. — Police took a school bus driver into custody last Wednesday after they say she was caught texting while driving a school bus. Investigators believe Evelyn Guzman, 47, sent and received 1,068 text messages while operating a school bus between April 6 and May 15, 2010.
Investigators reviewed footage from her school bus’ surveillance camera that allegedly showed her texting, MSNBC reports. Detectives saw the footage during an investigation of an incident in which Guzman’s daughter, Jennifer Davila, allegedly assaulted a special-needs student on the bus.
Davila, 24, worked as a bus monitor on her mother’s school bus.
Guzman has been charged with risk of injury to a minor and reckless endangerment. She is free on $1,500 bond. A court date has been set for March 25.
