School Bus Assault Prompts New Safety Measures

WILMINGTON, Del. — A 7-year-old girl from Forwood Elementary School was assaulted on board a school bus by a fifth-grade student, prompting security changes in the district.

Brandywine School District officials and state police are investigating the incident, which was recorded by another student with a cell phone, Delaware Online reports. The girl was taken to hospital by her mother, where she was treated for a traumatic hematoma to the head and a concussion.

An aide was assigned to the bus Wednesday and the bus on that route has been replaced by a bus with two video surveillance cameras instead of one. A supervisor was also following the bus in an SUV.
